Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provide the oversight and institutional vision of the organization. Many of our Board Members are young professionals who have been involved with CYI in the past.

Current Board Members

Elisa Rae Espiritu has worked in the past with organizations such as The Posse Foundation, The International YMCA, and The Chinatown Working Group. Elisa has been a member of the Board of Directors for CYI for two years. She has an M.A. in Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy from NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education.

VF CAPAL Headshot SquareVincent Fang has been a member of the CYI family since 2007. Starting as a language partner for the Chinatown Literacy Project, Vincentheld several leadership roles in CYI, including Summer Leadership Institute Coordinator and the CYI Working Group member. He is currently a Community Liaison for NYC Council Member Margaret Chin by day and a religious Netflix viewer by night. Vincent holds a BA in Political Science and Policy Studies with a minor in Asian/Asian American Studies from Syracuse University.

3cc3335Dan Ping He has previously coordinated youth leadership programs, served as a student diversity dialogue facilitator, and led a financial coaching services program for low- and moderate-income households across New York City. She currently works at a community-based organization in Lower East Side to advance public health through neighborhood-scale initiatives. Dan Ping holds a B.A. in Sociology from Wesleyan University with research and writing experience in the areas of urban studies, public housing policy, and educational equity.

MaMarilla-6 small croppedrilla Li has been involved in CYI programming since 2010. From 2010 to 2013, she was the Chinatown Literacy Project Advisor and a Program Coordinator at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. She is currently a Community Liaison for New York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. Marilla holds a BA in Anthropology from Barnard College and an MPA in Management and Public Policy from NYU. She tweets @marillali.

Andy Woo 
has been a community advisor to CYI for over 10 years. Currently, he is an Engineering Supervisor at Con Edison, designing and operating the Manhattan electrical system. Andy has been a passionate advocate for student leadership development as the founder of the John Liu Youth Action Team since NYC Comptroller John Liu’s intial election to New York City Council in 2001. Andy continues to ensure that tomorrow’s leaders build a stronger connection with the community around them as a member of NYC First Robotics Competition Planning Committee and serving on the board of OCA’s New York Chapter as the CYI liaison.
